077 - Shelly Bell of Black Girl Ventures: Social Capital Is The Real Change Need For Underrepresented Populations
Show Notes

Nick Hughes is joined by Shelly Bell, Founder of Black Girl Ventures from Washington DC. Black Girl Ventures is Creating Access to Capital for Black/Brown Women Founders and Entrepreneurs. Nick dives deep with Shelly around the challenges underrepresented entrepreneurs are facing, specifically around ethnic and gender issues. The main point Shelly brings to light is how we must first look at social capital - or making sure all are "in the network" for all populations so they can even have a seat at the table or in the call - before we talk about funding equality (which is equally important). Then, they talk more about Black Girl Ventures and the vision of the organization, as well as what they offer for their members and how people can get involved. This is a very important conversation full of wisdom and insights some might not be fully aware of and we hope it helps enlighten you of how much more work needs to be done to achieve entrepreneurial equality.
